Week 1 | Thursday, February 4

In class: Welcome, introductions, syllabus and logistics, role definitions, potential project discussions.

Week 2 | Thursday, February 11

Due:

  • If pitching, post draft project proposals by midnight on Monday, February 8 (= public post; category: Project Proposals)
  • If not pitching, leave constructive feedback as comments on several of the proposals by Tuesday, February 9.
  • Expertise share post (public post; category: Skillsets) by Tuesday, February 9. For examples of past skillset posts, see here and here.
  • Attend at least one NYCDH Week virtual event from 2/8-2/12 (kickoff day: Monday, February 8, feat. Madiha Zahrah Choksi and Lisa Rhody. Register here).

In class: Elevator pitches, decision day, group formation, group roles and collaborator agreement. By the end of this class period, you should have a list of group members, responsibilities, and an agreement for modes of communication and meeting deadlines.

In class: Collaborative group work revising project proposals, assessment of project management resources.

In class: Possible presentation from GC Digital Fellows, Dr. Lisa Rhody class visit, group meetings: identifying existing resources and project needs. Create actionable steps to fill project gaps.

This week: schedule consultation meetings with Digital Fellows; consider reaching out to outside advisor(s)

Week 5 | Thursday, March 4 (guest lecture by Steve Zweibel)

  • Personal bios and contribution statements by Tuesday, 3/2. In 1-2 paragraphs answer questions such as who are you? what is your academic and professional background? what are your research interests? what are your responsibilities on your project?  (= public individual post; category: Personal Blog)
  • Group data management plans by Friday, 3/5 (= public group post; category: Group Project Updates)

In class:  Guest lecture on data management by Steve Zweibel, GC Data and Digital Projects Librarian. Group meeting to discuss data management plans, storage, and sharing practices.

  • Personal journal entries reflecting on how data management can improve your research practices by Tuesday, 3/9 (=  private or public individual post; category: Personal Blog).
  • Group Outreach and Social Media Plans by Friday, 3/12 (= public group post; category: Group Project Updates). For examples from last two years, see here, here, and here.

In class: Project presentations discussing data management plans, collaborative group work focusing on outreach and social media plans.

Week 8 | Thursday, March 25

  • Group project updates by Friday, 3/26. Project updates: Are you hitting your milestones? Why or why not? What adjustments have you made? How will your group manage the upcoming hiatus over spring break?

In class: Collaborative project work and consultation.

Due: Personal journal entries (4/6) + Group project updates (4/9)

In class: Collaborative project work and consultation. Discuss logo design plans.

Week 11 | Thursday, April 15

Due: Personal journal entries (4/13) + Group project updates (4/16). Project updates: Are you hitting your milestones? Why or why not? What adjustments have you made?

In class: Collaborative project work and consultation. 

Week 12 | Thursday, April 22

Due: Personal journal entries (4/20) + Group project updates (4/23) Project updates: Are you hitting your milestones? Why or why not? What adjustments have you made as we enter the final stretch?

In class: Project presentations (choose a standard background design for slides, 5-minute talks), collaborative project work and consultation.

Week 13 | Thursday, April 29 (guest lecture by Stephen Klein)

Due: Personal journal entries (4/27) + Group project updates (4/30).

In class: T minus one week! Guest lecture by Stephen Klein on web archiving, collaborative project work and consultation.

Week 14 | Thursday, May 6

Due: Personal journal entries (5/4). No group project updates this week.

In class: Project launch dress rehearsal. Possible class visitor to offer external feedback. Confirmed: Javier Otero Peña will be joining us.

Week 15 | Thursday, May 13

Public project launch at the virtual GC Digital Showcase (date & time to be confirmed).

Week 16 | Thursday, May 20

Due:

  • Post final group project reports as public posts to Commons blog.
  • Email individual reflection papers to instructor.
